It is with disappointment that I write this notice for the attention of all Members. We have seen a number of thefts from the lakes in recent weeks, most notably at Little Rowfant Lakes, where wood, rubber mats and slabs which were either purchased by the Society or kindly donated by Members have been stolen. In the past we have seen ladders & various other items stolen, but the recent thefts are of particular concern as they will hinder our planned works at Little Rowfant Lakes. We believe they can only have been undertaken by people who could drive a van / truck into the car park, i.e. they know the padlock number. This suggests the perpetrator(s) are Members which leaves a very bad taste in the mouth.
It also with regret that we are seeing an increase in the amounts of rubbish left on our waters. This requires regular collections by Officials & removal from the waters. Your Committee wishes to emphasise that all items brought onto the Society’s waters should be removed / taken home. Please do not dispense with your rubbish by throwing it into the surrounding trees & bushes. Of especial concern is one Member who seems to think it appropriate to defecate & leave the waste & toilet paper in open view.
The above actions are all completely unacceptable behaviour, & if the Members concerned are identified they will referred to the Committee with the likelihood of memberships being terminated.
With works on-going to prepare Little Rowfant lakes for the phase 2 works in late spring / early summer, we have & will continue to be removing certain trees to allow access for a long-reach excavator. Members who can make use of these logs are free to take as many as they require. This will save time & effort in having to burn them on-site
Members are reminded that Guest permits must be purchased in advance of fishing at a cost of £10 per Guest Permit per day. Guest Permits can be purchased from The Carp Shop, Horley Row, Horley, Surrey.
The Committee would like to remind all members to handle fish with care, including the use of unhooking mats for all Carp & larger fish. Incidents have been reported to the Committee of fish not being returned to the water promptly. Whilst the taking of photographs is acceptable, please ensure fish are kept out of the water for the minimum of time to avoid unnecessary stress which put fish stocks at risk.
Members are reminded that they must not park in the main Anchor Inn car park.
Anglers are requested to park in the overspill car park, which is the field immediately to the left of the Anchor Inn. Parking is in the area immediately to the left of the field entrance. The OAPS parking stickers, which were supplied with your membership card should be displayed at all times.
Thank you for your co-operation.
All members, please note that due to the proliferation of cray fish within Rowfant Mill Pond, we have contracted with someone to catch & remove cray fish from the lake. You will see a number of cray fish pots attached to ropes leading onto the bankside in swims around the lake. Your Committee will keep under regular review the estimated population of cray fish within the lake and the continuation of the pots to effect removal of unwanted cray fish.
Please be aware that on Friday 5th June 2015 the Society undertook the sale of the freehold interest in The Mount Lake at Ifield and acquired the freehold interest in the Society’s leased lakes at Little Rowfant. With immediate effect therefore, the Society’s Members no longer have access to The Mount Lake at Ifield. The Society’s Committee please request that all Members note this change & do not attempt to fish at The Mount Lake, Ifield.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
